Toyota Camry generations, and why the schedule changes
6th generation XV40 (2007-2011)
2.4L 2AZ-FE four-cylinder or 3.5L 2GR-FE V6 with a 5-speed or 6-speed automatic
Oil: 5W-30 conventional or synthetic on the 2AZ-FE. Interval: 5,000 miles.
- Automatic transmission fluid drain-and-fill around 60,000 miles
- Spark plugs at 120,000 miles on the V6, sooner on the four-cylinder
- Coolant first change at 100,000 miles, then every 50,000
7th generation XV50 (2012-2017)
2.5L 2AR-FE four or 3.5L 2GR-FE V6, with a 6-speed automatic
Oil: 0W-20 full synthetic. Interval: 10,000 miles under normal use.
- Automatic transmission fluid drain-and-fill around 60,000 miles despite the lifetime label
- Spark plugs at 120,000 miles
- Coolant first change at 100,000 miles, then every 50,000
8th generation XV70 (2018-2024)
2.5L A25A-FKS four, 3.5L 2GR-FKS V6, or the hybrid, on an 8-speed automatic or eCVT
Oil: 0W-16 on the A25A-FKS, 0W-20 on the V6. Interval: 10,000 miles.
- The four-cylinder moved to 0W-16 - filling with 0W-20 is a genuine spec error here
- Direct injection means carbon buildup on intake valves is worth inspecting past 80,000 miles
- Hybrid models have a separate inverter coolant circuit
9th generation (2025 onward)
Hybrid-only: 2.5L A25A-FXS four-cylinder with a hybrid transaxle (e-CVT), FWD or AWD - no V6
Oil: SAE 0W-8 (0W-16 only as a one-change stopgap). Interval: 10,000 miles or 12 months.
- Every model is now a hybrid, so inverter coolant (first change at 150,000 miles) and the HV battery cooling intake filter (clean every 20,000 miles) apply across the range
- Friction brakes see less use thanks to regeneration, which makes seizure from underuse the risk
- The hybrid transaxle takes Toyota e-Transaxle fluid TE, not WS ATF - inspected every 30,000 miles, replaced only if you tow or carry heavy loads
What a Toyota Camry needs, and when
These are the 2026 Toyota Camry intervals. Earlier model years differ by generation, so open your own year for the exact schedule.
- Every 5,000 mi / 6 months: Rotate tires; Inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs; Inspect all fluid levels, including brake fluid level and condition; Inspect the HV battery cooling intake filter; Inspect wiper blades
- Every 5,000 mi / 6 months (severe: mainly dirt or dusty roads, or repeated trips under 5 miles below freezing): Replace engine oil (0W-8) and oil filter - Toyota says regardless of the oil used
- Every 10,000 mi / 12 months: Replace engine oil (SAE 0W-8) and oil filter; Replace cabin air filter
- Every 15,000 mi: Inspect ball joints and dust covers, steering gear, and steering linkage and boots; Inspect brake lines and hoses; Inspect drive shaft boots, and re-torque the drive shaft nut (AWD only); Inspect exhaust pipes and mountings; Inspect radiator and condenser
- Every 20,000 mi: Clean the HV battery cooling intake filter
- Every 30,000 mi: Replace engine air filter; Inspect the hybrid transaxle (e-Transaxle fluid TE) for leaks; Inspect fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and vapor vent hoses, and the fuel tank cap gasket
