Honda Accord generations, and why the schedule changes
8th generation (2008-2012)
2.4L K24 four-cylinder or 3.5L J35 V6 with cylinder deactivation
Oil: 5W-20 (2008-2010) / 0W-20 (2011-2012), synthetic optional. Interval: 7,500 - 10,000 miles on the Maintenance Minder.
- Automatic transmission fluid is Honda Genuine ATF-Z1 on 2008-2010 manuals; 2011-2012 manuals name Honda ATF DW-1, which supersedes Z1. Honda's owner's manual publishes no fixed servicing mileage either way (Maintenance Minder sub-item 3)
- Spark plugs have no fixed Honda mileage (Minder sub-item 4); commonly around 100,000 miles in practice, and the V6 rear bank is the awkward one
- Valve clearance is inspected at Minder sub-item 4 with no fixed mileage, and adjusted at services A/B/1/2/3 only if noisy - not a fixed 100,000-mile job
9th generation (2013-2017)
2.4L K24 four with CVT, or 3.5L J35 V6 with a 6-speed automatic
Oil: 0W-20 full synthetic. Interval: 7,500 - 10,000 miles on the Maintenance Minder.
- CVT fluid needs Honda HCF-2 specifically - a universal CVT fluid will damage it. No fixed normal-duty mileage published; 25,000 miles under severe duty (mountainous/low-speed/towing)
- The V6 uses Honda ATF DW-1 automatic transmission fluid, a different spec again, with no separate severe-duty mileage published
- Spark plugs have no fixed Honda mileage; commonly around 100,000 miles in practice
10th generation (2018-2022)
1.5L L15 turbo, 2.0L K20 turbo, or the two-motor hybrid
Oil: 0W-20 full synthetic. Interval: 7,500 - 10,000 miles on the Maintenance Minder.
- The 2.0L turbo pairs with a 10-speed automatic using Honda ATF-Type 2.0 (not ATF DW-1) - Honda's owner's manual publishes no severe-duty mileage for it
- Turbo engines make oil interval discipline more consequential than on the previous generation
- Spark plugs have no fixed Honda mileage on the 1.5L or 2.0T; commonly around 100,000 miles in practice, and the turbo makes correct heat range important
11th generation (2023 onward)
1.5L L15 turbo with CVT, or the 2.0L two-motor hybrid
Oil: 0W-20 full synthetic. Interval: 7,500 - 10,000 miles on the Maintenance Minder.
- Hybrid models make up most of the range and use a two-motor system with Honda HEVF-Type 1 transmission fluid rather than a conventional gearbox
- HCF-2 CVT fluid still applies to the non-hybrid 1.5L turbo
- Brake fluid is Maintenance Minder-tracked (sub-code 7) since the 10th-gen redesign, with a 3-year fallback if the code has not triggered
What a Honda Accord needs, and when
These are the 2026 Honda Accord intervals. Earlier model years differ by generation, so open your own year for the exact schedule.
- Maintenance Minder Code A (typically every 7,500-10,000 mi): Engine oil change (0W-20); Reset the oil life monitor
- Maintenance Minder Code B (typically every 15,000-20,000 mi): Replace engine oil and filter; Inspect brakes, suspension, and fluid levels; Inspect drive shaft boots, tie rods, steering gear box, and exhaust
- Sub-code 1: Rotate tires
- Sub-code 2 (Maintenance Minder - no fixed mileage published): Replace engine air filter; Replace dust and pollen (cabin) filter; Inspect drive belt
- Sub-code 2, severe duty (dusty conditions for the air filter; high-soot urban conditions for the cabin filter): Replace engine air filter or cabin filter every 15,000 mi - Honda's own severe-duty override
- Sub-code 3 (Maintenance Minder - no fixed mileage published): Replace transmission fluid (CVT HCF-2 on the 1.5T; Honda HEVF-Type 1 on the hybrid) - there is no 2.0T/10-speed automatic on the 11th generation
