P0141 on a Toyota
P0141 says the heater inside the bank 1, sensor 2 oxygen sensor - the one after the catalytic converter - is not drawing current the way the computer expects. The heater exists to get the sensor reading quickly on cold starts; the car drives normally without it, which is why this code so often arrives with no symptoms at all.
On a Toyota there is one question to answer before anything else: is P0141 alone, or did it arrive with other heater codes like P0135, P0155 or P0161? On many Toyota platforms the sensor heaters share a fuse or relay, so several heater codes appearing together points at that shared supply - or, in stubborn cases, at ECU power and grounds - rather than at three or four sensors all dying at once. A lone P0141 is a different story, and usually ends at the sensor itself.
- Failed heater element inside the sensor: The usual cause when P0141 appears alone - reported across Corolla, Camry, RAV4 and Tacoma. The heater fails from age and heat cycles while the sensing element keeps working.
- Shared heater fuse or relay, when multiple codes appear: Many Toyota platforms feed several sensor heaters from one fuse - labeled A/F HEATER on some Camry and Corolla generations, differently on others, so check your own fuse diagram. Two or more heater codes at once make this the first stop.
- Connector corrosion or road-debris damage: A truck-platform pattern: on Tacomas the downstream sensor sits low and exposed, and a corroded or stone-damaged connector reads the same as a dead heater.
- ECU power or ground fault, rarely: Documented in stubborn multi-code cases where fuses and sensors all tested good. Check ECU supply and ground integrity before condemning the ECM itself.
