P0141 on a Nissan
P0141 says the heater inside the bank 1, sensor 2 oxygen sensor - the one after the catalytic converter - is not drawing current the way the computer expects. The heater only matters on cold starts; once the exhaust is hot the sensor reads anyway, which is why the car drives normally with the light on.
On Nissans the usual outcome is the sensor itself - the Altima in particular is one of the most-reported vehicles for this code, and Sentra, Maxima and Rogue owners see it too. But there is a Nissan-specific wrinkle worth knowing before you buy anything: unlike some makes, there is no single fuse label for the O2 heater circuit across the lineup. Owners of different generations report different fuses in different boxes feeding the heaters, so the fuse diagram for your exact model and year is the starting point, not a generic chart.
- Failed heater element inside the sensor: The most common outcome on Altima, Sentra, Maxima and Rogue. The heater wire inside the sensor fails from age and heat cycles while the sensing element still works - which is why the car runs fine.
- Blown fuse feeding the heater circuit: Real, and cheap to check - but find the right fuse first. Nissan does not use one label or location for it across models, so check the fuse diagram for your specific year. A fuse that blows again after replacement means a short to hunt, not a sensor to buy.
- Chafed or heat-damaged wiring near the exhaust: The downstream sensor pigtail runs close to hot metal. Look for melted insulation, a dragged connector, or chafe where the harness passes heat shields.
- ECM heater driver, rarely: The computer switches the heater ground on most applications. It is the last suspect, worth considering only after the sensor, fuse and wiring all test good.
