Jeep Wrangler generations, and why the schedule changes
JK generation (2007-2017)
3.8L V6 through 2011, then the 3.6L Pentastar V6
Oil: 5W-20 full synthetic on the Pentastar. Interval: 8,000 - 10,000 miles.
- Front and rear axle fluid and transfer case fluid at 60,000 miles, sooner after water crossings
- Spark plugs at 100,000 miles on the Pentastar
- Off-road use makes fluid inspection interval-independent - check after any deep water
JL generation (2018 onward)
3.6L Pentastar V6, 2.0L turbo four, 3.0L EcoDiesel, or the 4xe plug-in hybrid
Oil: 5W-20 on the Pentastar, 0W-20 on the 2.0L turbo and 4xe. Interval: 10,000 miles.
- The 4xe plug-in hybrid adds a high-voltage battery cooling system and its own service items
- Spark plugs at 100,000 miles on the Pentastar but 60,000 on the 2.0L turbo
- Axle and transfer case fluid at 60,000 miles, and immediately after any water fording
