Ford Escape generations, and why the schedule changes
3rd generation (2013-2019)
2.5L naturally aspirated, 1.6L EcoBoost, 1.5L EcoBoost, or 2.0L EcoBoost
Oil: 5W-20 synthetic blend. Interval: 7,500 - 10,000 miles.
- Transmission fluid at 150,000 miles under normal use, far sooner in heavy city driving
- Spark plugs at 100,000 miles on the 2.5L, 60,000 on the EcoBoost engines
- Coolant at 100,000 miles, and worth checking early on the 1.6L
4th generation (2020 onward)
1.5L EcoBoost three-cylinder, 2.0L EcoBoost, or a hybrid and plug-in hybrid 2.5L
Oil: 5W-20 or 0W-20 full synthetic depending on engine. Interval: 10,000 miles with the oil life monitor.
- Hybrid models use an eCVT with its own fluid interval and no conventional starter
- The 1.5L three-cylinder uses cylinder deactivation and rewards clean oil
- Hybrid battery cooling intake needs periodic inspection for blockage
